Rules & Conditions

(Click here to Print This Page)

1. All categories except Team and Showcase Competitors will be required to share the floor with other competitors, and dance to music selected by the organisers. The dance must be clearly recognisable as Modern Jive and competitors must clearly demonstrate lead and follow.

2. All categories except Team and Showcase In each round, competitors will be required to dance to two 2 minute tracks – one slower and one faster. Competitors will be asked to shuffle round between tracks to give the judges a chance to clearly view all competitors. Over the rounds, the music will vary to encompass all flavours of Modern Jive, covering such genres as Pop, Latin, R’n’B and even Swing.

3. Team and Showcase categories Performers will dance to their chosen music, and will have the floor to themselves. They will perform their routine only once, though the winners of each section will be asked to perform again following the prize giving. Any material included which has clearly been copied from other performances will be marked down on originality, and may result in disqualification if it is found that permission was not given by original performers.

4. Eligibility:

Youth category All competitors must be aged between 9 and 16.
Senior category All competitors must be aged 50 and over.
All categories except Youth All competitors must be aged 17 and over.
Intermediate category All competitors must not be dance teachers or professional dancers, or have won an intermediate or higher category at any national Modern Jive competition.

5. All competitors may enter as many categories as they are eligible for, though they must be aware that in later rounds this could result in them having to dance twice in a row.

6. All categories With the exception of DWAS, Team and Showcase, competitors are limited to 2 aerials per track. In DWAS no aerials are permitted. In the Team and Showcase categories anything goes. A move is classed as an aerial when both feet of the person being lifted go above knee height. Aerials performed without regard for competitors around them will result in down marking and may result in disqualification.

7. Marks will be awarded for timing, musical connection, content, technique, lead and follow and showmanship. A more detailed explanation of the "Judging Method" is given separately.

8. You participate in BritRock at your own risk. If you are in any doubt about your health and coping with the physical demands of competitive dancing, you should consult your doctor.

9. Entry to most categories will be closed 2 days before the event.  Entries received after this date may be refused however where there is capacity in any category, entry to that will be accepted on the day of competition as long as entry is made and accepted BEFORE the start of any heat of that category.

Any categories under subscribed at the two day before the event point may be cancelled, in which case all entries for that category will be contacted and refunded.

10. The video recording of any part of Britrock by any means is strictly prohibited. BritRock will record every round of every category for distribution on DVD. By entering BritRock you are agreeing to appear on this DVD.

11. As BritRock approaches, more detailed schedule information will appear on our website. You may well find that some of this information changes on the day.

12. BritRock accepts no responsibility for any loss or injury to persons or possessions as a result of the event.

13. The judges’ decision is final.
