Biographies

Sarah Johnson

Sarah has twenty years of highly valuable experience in start-ups and operating her own business ventures within highly competitive markets.

In addition to this, Sarah’s professional career profile has included many business strategy and mentoring courses, also with a number of highly credible communications and personal development courses.

This has enabled Sarah to develop market leading expertise within the areas of Business Brand Value, Business Strategy, Sales and Marketing.

Sarah has applied this wealth of experience and cross sector business skills to good affect. As a successful and leading multiple venue dance organiser, Sarah has built a viable and sustainable local business from concept see www.modernjive.biz

However, her more notable achievement would be attributed to directorship and as founding major shareholder of BritRock (Awards).

BritRock is a prestigious and highly acclaimed National two day event that attracts competitors from all over the UK and Ireland. The event also attracts high profile celebrity status, which is a measure of its perceived status within the Media World see www.britrockcompetition.co.uk

Sarah is also a Trustee and leading exponent of one of the most ambitious non corporate sponsored construction charity projects in Kenya. This charity consistently raises significant global funding, and is currently embarked upon projects to build homes and educate orphaned children. Gordon Pownall

Gordon works with disabled adults and children as a Senior Strategic Manager for a charity and has worked in social care for over 12 years following his training as a Psychotherapist and Analytical Counsellor. 

Gordon has been teaching dance for over 8 years and is twice UK Modern Jive Team National Champion (2004) as well as a 2004 JiveMasters finalist.  Gordon teaches modern jive across the South East, North London and the Home Counties and is also an experienced Dance Competition Judge. 

His on stage experience isn’t limited to dance though. He has consulted on national TV and is a charity auctioneer.  As well as being a singer, Gordon has appeared on stage in a number of amateur musical and drama productions including Fiddler On The Roof, Grease and The Crucible as well as singing and playing keyboards in a number of bands.   

Apart from dancing, as a Maritime and Coastguard Agency Commercially endorsed Yachtmaster, weekends are dedicated to teaching sailing and racing offshore on yachts and powerboats. 

Gordon recently married Sally, our BritRock Music Director, in the Caribbean in July 2008 earlier this year. 

Sally Pownall 

Sally, as well as being an independent modern jive teacher of over eight years is one of the UK’s most popular modern jive DJ’s and is an experienced Dance Competition Judge. Sally is twice UK Modern Jive Team National Champion (2004) as well as a 2004 JiveMasters finalist.   

Sally is a Senior Finance Practice Manager in the City of London and is also Managing Director of On Water Training.co.uk – Gordon and Sally’s own yachting and boating charter company. 

As well as dancing and DJ’ing, Sally can be regularly found sailing on the south coast or driving powerboats at the weekends and is also a Badminton coach and keen horsewoman. 

Following her recent marriage to Gordon and their honeymoon, both of which took place in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Sally is planning to return next year in the company of a crowd and is organising a modern jive dancing and yachting holiday in the Caribbean for novice and experienced dancers and sailors.

Marian Child

Specialises in "sports massage", working on client's posture and muscular problems related to both day to day activities and sports issues.  She also works in offices and events using "seated acupressure", using a specially designed chair using no oil.  This massage technique leaves peoples muscles and bodies feeling both relaxed and energised.
